Vatican Museums ticket questions that affect what you should buy

Use these checks before choosing between official Vatican Museums tickets and partner products.

Official Vatican Museums tickets sold out?

Online dates can sell out, but there is another official route in.

  1. Try the ticket office

The ticket office sells the same admission without the online booking fee, but only while places remain and without a reservation.

    Vatican Museums: tariffs and tickets

  2. Try the free last Sunday

The last Sunday of the month normally opens from 09:00 to 14:00 with free admission for everyone; last entry is 12:30.

    Vatican Museums: opening hours

  3. Compare partner tickets and tours

Partner tours on this page may still have space on a sold-out date. They add a guide or other extras, so they cost more than official tickets.

    See the options below

Can I buy Vatican Museums tickets at the ticket office?

Yes. The ticket office sells adult admission for €20, without the €5 online booking fee, but only while places remain and without a reservation. Online tickets cost €25 and fix your entry time.

If your dates are fixed, book online or choose a partner ticket; rely on the ticket office only if you can risk it being full.

Vatican Museums: tariffs and tickets

Who gets free or reduced Vatican Museums tickets?

Children under 7 enter free. Students up to age 25 pay €15 online, €10 plus the €5 booking fee, with a valid student ID and proof of current enrolment. Visitors with a certified disability of at least 67% enter free, with a companion when needed.

The last Sunday of the month normally opens 09:00 to 14:00 with free admission for everyone, with last entry at 12:30.

Partner tickets and tours set their own child prices, so check the total for your group on the seller's page.

Vatican Museums: tariffs and tickets

Do Vatican Museums tickets include St Peter's Basilica?

No. The official ticket covers the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel for the date on the ticket. St Peter's Basilica is a separate visit and free to enter; some partner tours continue into it with the guide.

If you want a guide in the Basilica too, choose a tour that lists it; otherwise the official ticket and a free Basilica visit cost less.
