The stairs reach the second floor only (674 steps by the official count); the summit is reached by lift. The official site says the stairs and the summit are not accessible to people with reduced mobility, in wheelchairs or with crutches, and invites them to choose a lift ticket to the second floor. Its tips suggest the stairs unless your group includes very young children or people in poor physical condition.

Official price benchmark

How do official Eiffel Tower prices compare with partner tours?

The Eiffel Tower publishes adult prices for stairs and lift access. We compare those official rates with the partner tickets and tours on this page.

Official adult ticket from€14.80Second floor by stairs
Published by Official Eiffel Tower
Second floor by stairs€14.80
Second floor by lift€23.50
Summit: stairs to the second floor, then lift (online in low season only; ticket office on the day)€28.00
Summit by lift€36.70
Good for
Visitors who can book ahead and want the lowest price: the official ticket office sells second-floor and summit tickets by stairs or lift, with reduced rates for ages 4 to 24.
Not ideal for
Anyone who wants a partner guide or whose plans might change: the official site sells its own guided tours too, from €53.50 to €71.70 (adult), and official orders are final and cannot be cancelled or amended once paid.

From 11 January 2027 the official adult prices rise by €0.40 to €1.00: second floor by stairs €15.20, by lift €24.10; summit by stairs and lift €28.80, by lift €37.70. Prices for visits up to 10 January 2027 apply until then.

The official site also sells its own guided tours (adult): to the second floor €53.50, up to the second floor with access to the top €66.70, to the top €71.70.

Plan your Eiffel Tower visit

From the official website, checked 23 September 2026. Hours and rules can change, so confirm on the official site before you travel.

Opening days and last entry
Open every day of the year. Hours change by date and season, so check the official calendar for your visit day. Summit ticket offices generally close about 1 hour 45 minutes before the monument closes; stair ticket offices can close up to 45 minutes before the stairs close. Official source
Allow for your visit
Allow at least 1 hour 30 minutes for the first and second floors, or 2 hours 30 minutes for a summit visit. Official source
What this ticket includes
Choose second-floor or summit access and the stated ascent method. The stairs-and-lift summit ticket requires stairs to the second floor followed by a lift; a summit visit also includes the lower floors. Official source
Children and free admission
Under-4s need a free ticket; reduced rates apply to ages 4 to 11 and 12 to 24 with proof of age. A named disability card gives the disability rate to its holder and one accompanying guest. Official source
Accessibility
Wheelchair users can reach the first floor and lower level of the second floor by lift. Stairs and the summit are not accessible to visitors with reduced mobility or crutches. Official source
Changes and cancellation
Orders are final and cannot be cancelled or amended by the customer once payment has been confirmed. Official source
Where to arrive
Use the south or east entrance and allow 15 to 20 minutes for security before your ticket time. At that time, join the visitors-with-tickets queue beneath the Tower; bring ID and any proof needed for reduced admission. Official source

Some partner tickets pair summit access with a Seine cruise, and the operators' own cruise prices are compared in a separate guide, which shows what a bundle adds.

Stairs or lift

Should you take the stairs or the lift at the Eiffel Tower?

Stair-access tickets require a climb to the second floor. Lift-only tickets use the lift from the ground. Some summit tickets combine stairs to the second floor with the lift to the summit; the route is stated on each pick.

Stairs to the second floor

2nd Floor Access with English-Speaking Guide

Route: stairs. Sold by GetYourGuide from €37.80 per person.

Lift from the ground

Eiffel Tower 2nd Floor Access

Route: lift from the ground to the second floor, no stairs. Sold by GetYourGuide from €69.00 per person.

Lift to the summit

Summit Access Guided Tour

Route: by lift; the seller does not say whether stairs are involved. Sold by Viator from €36.10 per adult.

These offers include different services, such as guides, cruises or time slots, so the difference between their prices is not the cost of the lift alone. Official prices by route are listed in the official price table above.

Second floor or summit

Is Eiffel Tower summit access worth it?

A second-floor ticket ends at the second level. A summit ticket continues above the second floor to the highest public level of the tower, and includes the first and second floors.

The lowest-priced summit offer we have checked costs €1.70 less than the lowest-priced second-floor-only offer we have checked.

Summit and Seine cruise

Is an Eiffel Tower and Seine cruise bundle worth it?

A bundle combines tower access with a Seine sightseeing cruise in the same booking.

The lowest-priced summit and cruise offer we have checked costs €38.80 more than the lowest-priced summit offer we have checked.

Before you book

Eiffel Tower ticket questions that affect what you should buy

Eiffel Tower ticket choices affect which floors you can visit, how you reach them and whether you can change your access later. These answers use current guidance from the official Eiffel Tower.

Official Eiffel Tower tickets sold out?

Busy dates can sell out online, summit tickets first. A sold-out date online does not mean you cannot visit.

  1. Try another date or time

The official calendar shows dates with last tickets in orange. If you are flexible, a nearby date may still have online tickets.

    Official ticket office help
  2. Buy at the Tower on the day

When online tickets are sold out, the ticket offices at the Tower still sell tickets for immediate use on the day, subject to availability. You queue at the ticket office, which e-ticket holders skip.

    Official ticket office help
  3. Compare partner tickets and tours

Partner tours on this page may still have space on a sold-out date. They add a guide or other extras, so they cost more than official tickets.

    See the options above

Can you upgrade a second-floor Eiffel Tower ticket to the summit?

No. An Eiffel Tower second-floor ticket cannot be upgraded to summit access after purchase. The Eiffel Tower requires visitors to choose the second floor or summit when buying the ticket, and it does not sell a supplementary summit ticket to second-floor ticket holders online or at the monument.

If you want to visit the Eiffel Tower summit, buy a ticket that includes summit access from the start.

Official Eiffel Tower ticket guidance

Does an Eiffel Tower summit ticket include the first and second floors?

Yes. An Eiffel Tower summit ticket includes access to the first floor, second floor and summit. Visitors normally travel to the highest level included in their ticket first and explore the lower floors while descending.

Official Eiffel Tower summit guidance

How does an Eiffel Tower stairs and summit ticket work?

An Eiffel Tower stairs and summit ticket uses the stairs from the ground to the second floor and the lift from the second floor to the summit. Visitors cannot use the public stairs from the second floor to the summit.

The Eiffel Tower states that the climb to the second floor has 674 steps and usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on fitness and pace.

Official Eiffel Tower stairs guidance

Are Eiffel Tower stairs and summit tickets suitable for visitors with reduced mobility?

Eiffel Tower stairs and summit access are not suitable for visitors with reduced mobility, wheelchair users or visitors using crutches. The Eiffel Tower allows these visitors to reach the first and second floors by lift, but summit access is restricted because emergency evacuation from the summit can require stairs.

Visitors with other disabilities who have normal mobility can access the summit.

Official Eiffel Tower accessibility guidance

Do skip-the-line Eiffel Tower tickets avoid every queue?

No. Eiffel Tower tickets described as priority or skip-the-line tickets do not remove every queue. The official Eiffel Tower says that third-party priority access does not provide additional privilege beyond avoiding the ticket-office queue. Visitors still pass through security and the access controls for the lifts or stairs.

Treat skip-the-line wording as a ticketing benefit rather than a guarantee of immediate entry to the Eiffel Tower.
